Mahavir Jayanti - The Rise of Non-Violence

In Jainism, founded by Lord Rishabhdev, the number of Tirthankaras is said to be twenty-four. Lord Mahavira is the twenty-fourth (24th) and last Tirthankara of Jainism. Today is the birth anniversary of the same Lord Mahavira. Ahimsa and truth have been described by Tirthankara Mahavir Swami as the highest moral virtue of a human being.
Lord Mahavira was born about two and a half thousand years ago (599 years before Christ), on the day of Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi in Kundalgram near Vaishali. Lord Mahavira was a descendant of the Ikshvaku dynasty, the same dynasty which was also a descendant of Lord Rama. His father King Siddhartha and mother Trishala were also followers of Jain tradition. His childhood name was Vardhaman. Apart from this, they are addressed by names like Veer, Atveer, Mahaveer and Sanmati. According to the Digambar tradition, Mahavir was a Brahmachari. But according to the Shvetambara tradition, he was married to Sukanya named Yashoda and later a girl named Priyadarshini was born who was married to Prince Jamali when he was young. During the entire Sadhana period of his 12 years, Mahavira did hard penance and remained silent. He had 11 Ganadhars (main disciples) among whom were the first Indrabhuti. He said that the ultimate goal of life is salvation and we have to work for it without any hesitation.

Teachings - says Lord Mahavir Swami,
Truth - The one who remains under the command of the wise truth swims to death.
Ahimsa - Do not commit violence to all the creatures in this world, protect them, keep compassion in your mind towards them.
Achaurya - In Jain texts it is said to take the object of another without his permission.
Aparigraha - A man who collects living or non-living things, he can never get rid of sorrows.
Brahmacharya - Brahmacharya is the root of perfect penance, rules, knowledge, philosophy, character, restraint and humility.
Lord Mahavira told the world the Panchsheel principles of Jainism, which is - Ahimsa, Satya, Aparigraha, Achaurya (Astey) and Brahmacharya. He gave wonderful principles such as Ananthivism, Syedvad and Aparigraha.
After 12 years of hard penance, he received knowledge only after which he spread knowledge in Samvasaran. At the age of 72, he attained salvation from Pavapuri. In the current turbulent, militant, corrupt and violent environment, only Mahavir's non-violence can provide peace. Mahavir's non-violence does not only refer to direct slaughter as violence, but also a bad thought towards anyone in the mind is violence.

“अहिंसा परमो धर्मः धर्म हिंसा तथैव च: ”
That is, non-violence is the ultimate religion of man and when the religion hits, then the violence done to protect that religion is a bigger religion than that. That is, we should always adopt the path of non-violence, but if there is any danger on our religion and nation, then we should renounce the path of non-violence and adopt the path of violence. Because that violence is the biggest religion to protect religion.
But Lord Mahavir Swami says, “अहिंसा परमो धर्मः” means non-violence is the ultimate religion of man. We should always follow the path of non-violence.
